A solo project led in a period of four weeks towards my Real-Time Animation module, made to showcase understanding of Walt Disney’s Principles of Animation, as well as proficiency with techniques of physically-based animation.

A dazed protagonist takes his bearing in a dark environment, before combatting his demons by destroying their greatest feature.

  • The project was meant to demonstrate an understanding for the principles described by Walt Disney as essential for good quality animated content, most notably exaggeration, preparation, follow through, and squash and stretch.

    • Cloth simulation visualised by the flag on top of the Arc de Triomphe, using the systems built into Unreal Engine

    • Destruction physics with the protagonist destroying the Arch at the end of the sequence, using the Chaos Physics system

    • A simple particle animation in form of the beam, using the Niagara particle system built into Unreal Engine

  • Not graded per se but worth highlighting:

    • scene setup inspired by the Avenue des Champs Élysées in Paris

    • lighting and ambiance set to represent a foggy, dark night, with extra lights to highlight the Arch and demon.

    • Color palette - mostly dark, cold colors, with the demon highlighted in contrasting orange for emphasis.
