For this project, groups were to assign a set role for each member. We decided on a split of:
- Gameplay Programmer,
- CPU Programmer,
- Physics Programmer,
- Environment Artist, and
- Technical Artist.I volunteered to the role of CPU Programmer,
-
As responsible mainly for the VS mode, the plan was to iteratively implement a CPU opponent in the stages of
- “follows a pre-set spline strictly” >
- “looser steering with adaptive speed” >
- more complex behaviours including actual overtaking mechanics, the use of drifting or nitro boosting among many ideas.Due to certain team members not pulling their weight, I had to consider the agent with adaptive speed management as good enough and deputise to environment art for about two weeks.
-
The Environment Artist in this project having not pulled their weight, I was forced to first deputise then take on the majority of this role as well during the last two weeks of the project.
As such I was responsible for:
- terrain, procedurally generated in Blender,
- city environment, exported from a paid procedural plugin in Blender and stylised to make up for texturing errors during export, and
- ambiance in the scene, including lighting and skybox
